We're working on the haiku competition: they've been scribed onto little cards, and we're taking the eight finalists out with us on our afternoon picnic to determine the winner. The tension... is... unbearable!
Ahem. :)

Arrr... isn't that... HDR?
ReplyDelete-vl.
"Merge to HDR" is much improved in CS3 :)
ReplyDeleteWords go well with the image I think. I just have an intense dislike of HDR :p
ReplyDeleteWhere is this by the way?
-vl.
Yes, I'm not too fond of tinkering either, I know what you mean.
ReplyDeleteIt's Glasters! Ever been to the festival? They even had an aria from Die Walkure a few years ago... :)
No, never, I've just about vaguely heard of it.
ReplyDeleteSome tinkering I like, mostly exposing bits of the image more than others, adjusting the contrast, toning etc, but I'm not a huge fan of anything above that somehow.
BTW, have you heard of gum printing (see here). I want to give this a try with some digital negatives, seems fun but very time consuming...
-vl.
I'm off to the festival for the first time since 2000.
ReplyDeleteTrying to decide which teaware I can take and not be too disappointed if it doesn't return atm.
Found your site because of Blogs of Note today and am delighted. I write these haiku as a gift.
ReplyDeletePortal to the past
Chants echo in the stonework
I wrap my cloak tight
I whisk the tea brush
Maple leaves fall to the path
I am the aroma
Contest is over
Though the urge to write is here
Too late my entry

Dear Vlad,
ReplyDeleteGum-printing looks very you. :)
Dear Proinsias,
Teaware at Glasters... that is particularly brave, and I salute you. Take your worst, worst equippage!
Dear Ron,
I really appreciate your haiku, thank you.

Congratulations, indeed, for being listed among the Blogs of Note! Salute!
ReplyDeleteAm thrilled your blog is of note!
ReplyDeleteJust finishing Thich Nhat Hahn's
OLD PATH, WHITE CLOUDSE, the journey and teachings of Buddha. Also, am engrossed in the Tao. Haven't read your years of blogs,
but was curious. Are you a found-
ation or organization in which one can become a member? Or is this blog strictly for entertainment?
Petra

ReplyDeleteCongratulations for haiku competitions. I know some people who are fond of haikus, not only read them but write them, too.

ReplyDeleteHi, can you please inform me as to how to incorporate my own image into the layout of the header of my blog as you have done?
ReplyDeleteI am unable to figure out how to fit the image to the elongated rectangle size at the top of my blog and the picture ends up being huge.
thank you!

Great blog, love the photo, just the right feel.
ReplyDeleteDear all,
ReplyDeleteWhere to begin! Thank you for the kind posts, and for the haiku, each and every one.
To answer specific questions:
Petra: You started with a good book. My best recommendation is "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind", by Suzuki, as an equally excellent introduction to Zen that grows along with you. This blog is highly informal and just for sharing thoughts; I'm very glad you found something to your liking.
Natasha: the image at the top of the page is via the "Layout" option in Blogger. Within it, go to the "Page Elements" tab and add a "Picture" element across the top of the page. That allows you to place an image at the top of your blog, which can also have a link (which was a function added just a fortnight ago).
Toodlepip all,
Hobbes
I have just created a new blog.
