  2. This haiku recounts the time that I went to have lunch at college and found myself sitting next to one of the academic leviathans in my field.

I was aware he had recently moved to move university, but had only seen him speak at international conferences and the like. All of a sudden, I sit down with my bowl of soup, slopping it all over the table in my clumsy way, and I am unexpectedly shoulder-to-shoulder with someone who single-handedly invented large parts of my academic field. Let's call him "Schnoobus T. Rockingham" for the purposes of this haiku.

My brain overheated instantly, and the resulting molten solution of brain cells promptly short-circuited. I reached for the jug of water at the centre of the table, and intended to ask Prof. Rockingham if he would like some water. The words that actually came out are captured in the haiku.

The image that makes this haiga is one that I sketched at the last conference where I saw Prof. Rockingham speak, sometime last winter, in the USA. I shared this via Facebook at the time, and received comments from those Facebook friends who (i) have some understanding of linear algebra and (ii) have some understanding of the Spanish language.

It is a personal goal to get the "cojones matrix" (pronounced in the Anglicised "COH-DJOH'NZ") into a peer-reviewed academic publication. I live in hope.

  3. Dear Shah,

There is no way I can read that entire article, but I did like the terms "eigenjesus" and "eigenmoses". :)

  4. I was reading this article when I saw your image. "Hmmm" I thought, "This is a most complementary mathematical blog post to this little fragment of a tea post!" Paste in I did.
