Dear Heidu. Our much-loved, departed friend, who once slept at the foot of our bed, on those days when he crept in for a night away from his owners, several houses down the street. He could sleep anywhere, anytime, and was, for a long time, something of a favourite among readers of this humble blog. This photograph shows him at his best, calmly making a sofa his own.
Alas, now his departure is permanent.

The haiku relates to my own experiences in London's Heathrow airport. I was the traveller; the single malts were mine - gifts for professors that I was to visit in Beijing. Like dear Heidu, I seemed to be able to sleep anywhere, when sufficiently tired.

We miss you, old friend.

Poor Heidu... Hope he (she?) is happy where he is now. There are eight more lives to be lived elsewhere.

Heidu is, no doubt, enjoying wherever he has moved on to. I bet he's curled up on a cloud, batting the air with his paw as he dreams of chasing birds...
