There is some amazing infrastructure to be seen in Mainland China. It often appears quite poignant, though, because now matter how grand the feat of engineering (in this case, huge solar panels by the side of a motorway, being used to power signs at a junction), it usually butts right up against the life of the underprivileged common man.

The farms had been there forever, it seemed from the age of their shacks. Yet the huge solar panels, probably installed during the last season from the look of them, cast huge shadows over the farmers' rice paddies. Even the motorway looked as if it were intruding on a way of life that has been unchanged for centuries.
