It never caught us, though, that red Beijing sun. It's also something that one doesn't tend to see in Beijing, apart from through the thin veil of the city's air. There's something wonderful about flying home; "travel broadens the mind", but there is a limit to how much one can be away from one's family.

The family connection comes out in the image in this haiga, where the new apple trees that we planted to celebrate Xiaohu's birth are in full fruit. Red, but not cold, their warmth reminds me of the homely comforts of our garden. It's good to have such things in the mind when your aeroplane is flying home.
