I didn't expect to see something as fragile as the butterfly living in the busy, traffic-filled environment of Maliandao. I certainly wasn't expecting to see horse-drawn carts moving goods around. The butterfly and the carts reminded me of the long history of the place, predating the arrival of the automobile. A tiny slice of vulnerable gentility in an otherwise urban setting.

The image that makes up this haiga is of Xiaohu's first jelly. Or, rather, his first jelly that came out looking like it should, and not a simple mass of coloured gloop. The mistakes were equally tasty, however, and Xiaohu seemed to enjoy them all, independent of their shape...
